Huntington Beach native Johnny Zapp made his way on the Tempe, Arizona music scene in the late 1990s. As the go-to guy on guitars, bass and drums, Johnny was a ringer playing with many of the valley’s soon-to-be national acts. As the century turned, Zapp was taking calls to throw together celebrity all-star bands for national shows, fund raisers and celebrity events. With revolving line-ups of LA and Tempe’s finest, Johnny Zapp and company consistently delivered.

In 2007, Johnny decided it was time to take a sabbatical from live performing (save for the occasional acoustic gig) in lieu of a lucrative career writing, recording and publishing rock music for film and television. With Johnny typically performing all guitars, bass, drums and vocals himself, his music is organic rock and roll deeply rooted in the 1970s. With music airing in over 48 coutries, some of Johnny’s television credits include Pimp My RideMTV 10 on Top, ESPN Coverage of the PGA Tour, various Red Bull promos and the Nat Geo travel/marine-life smash, Into The Drink..

FM rock radio in major cities such as Phoenix, Los Angeles, Orange County, Philly and all over Europe also picked up a handful of Zapp’s singles. Additionally, he received honors across the 16th, 17th, and 18th annual Billboard Magazine Songwriting contests for the singles, “Alone Again,” “Poor Pitiful You,” “Want You Need You,” and “Dirty Good Time,” and most recently, from the Songwriter’s Association of Washington for his single, “Run Away,” featuring The Darts’ frontwoman, Nicole Laurenne on vocals.

Zapp inked a worldwide distribution deal with Island Def Jam Music Group, and has released over two dozen singles available for purchase via iTunes and most major digital media outlets.

In 2017, Johnny Zapp returned to the stage full-time playing guitar, bass or drums as a hired gun for bands all over the U.S. Check back often for the who, where and whens, as well as dates for solo gigs here and there.

Johnny is also a columnist for Vintage Guitar Magazine, and he freelances for several major motorcycle, music, fashion and art & culture publications.
