new year, new single, island-def jam, film/tv and more...
happy new year fans!! the year is starting off with a bang! check out my brand new single "baby blue" here . The track features yours truly on all vocals, guitars, bass and drums and was written for murder/mystery/crime/drama tv. you can also download a copy off itunes here . it is also with great pride and pleasure that i announce that island-def jam has picked up over 20 of my singles for worldwide distribution! how awesome is that??!! check out the island-def jam johnny zapp link here . in the film and tv department, an instrumental version of my single "alone again" was licensed out for episode 120 of mtv at the movies. you can check out mtv at the movies' website here and read up on the latest movie news as well as watch past episodes. moving right along, my single "dirty good time" received an 8.3 from billboard magazine's 18th annual songwriting contest placing in the top 500 out of over 10,000 entrants yet again, with judges comments "good rocker, good arrangement, good build to chorus. great chorus." another plaque for the studio wall! and lastly...whew, about time, huh? if you weren't able to catch the live radio interview i did with san diego's ulm radio and dj eric vellone on november 30th, you can give it a listen here . well that just about does it for now. if you haven't gone to the johnny zapp facebook page and "liked" it yet, please do me the honor now! i am off to write another rocker!

us open of surf in huntington beach,
radio and my new single "orange county"
what do these things have in common you ask? well other than them being kick ass ladies and gentlemen, the us open of surf held in huntington beach, ca officially begins this saturday, july 30th and runs thru august 7th. in conjunction with the surf open, my single "orange county" will make its fm radio debut in well...orange county and los angeles! that's right...indie 103.1 is getting it started! thanks jonathan at indie 103.1! you can check check out radio info here. the single will also be hitting the radio in vegas, phoenix and all over the rest of the world following the debut in orange county as the surf contest gets under way. please check out the us open of surf here for information on the event. make sure to tune in wherever you are, if you can't make it out to huntington. for everyone else... you know where to find me!

mid year film/tv report is in...
so the pump audio/getty images mid year report just came in...the pga tour has licensed out an instrumental version of my single "poor pitiful you" for a solid 8 episodes so far. abc australia's rush tv has picked up my music for an additional 3 episodes (episode 19, 47 and 49) and lastly, mtv has picked up an instrumental version of my single "alone again" for the upcoming season 5 of pimp my ride. good times and good livin'! so if you haven't already downloaded a copy of my new single "orange county" , and you haven't "liked" the work in progress that is the new johnny zapp facebook page, what the heck are you waiting for???!!!

new single, facebook, magazine, australian tv and more...
well, well, well...this is a busy week for me! the brand new single "orange county" dropped this week and is available now on itunes here. this is a top down, summertime tune if there ever was one. The track features yours truly on all vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, bass, drums and percussion. download it off itunes and crank it on your way to it the beach! also this week, the new issue of car kulture deluxe (issue #47 july/august) hit news stands. this issue has a 2 page feature on me and my '64 harley and is called "carrying on a tradition". grab your copy today anywhere kick ass hot rod magazines are sold. most major grocery stores have them or if all else fails, hit your local barnes and noble. in other news, i recently contributed music to abc australia's television show called "rush tv". "rush tv" is an action sports show focusing on skateboarding, surfing, motocross, bmx and snowboarding. ah yes, the irony :). the show features an instrumental version of "poor pitiful you" in episode 15. you can check out "rush tv" on abc australia and on line here. also in the works, i have finally conformed and started putting together a facebook page for my music biz. please check it out here and click the "like" button! charts, radio, interview and a cheap trick promo shoot...good times
hello there ladies and gentlemen! so back in april, dirty good time went international on over 110 fm radio stations world wide! not bad, huh? it debuted it's first week in the mainstream top 30 charts at #6 and is at #5 currently and still climbing! check out the independent music network charts here. vote for the single while you are there! while on the topic of the independent music network, i was recently invited to do an interview with them for their on-line magazine. the interview will be in the upcoming anniversary issue out the week of may 16th. do check it out. you will be able to read it here. and lastly, a few weeks back, my lady and i worked on the production crew for a hornitos tequila cinco de mayo promo with cheap trick! this was a great time! my lady was picked up as a production assistant and did a stellar job taking care of the band and crew. everybody was great to work with. jen and katie from hornitos, shari from cinemacia, the staff at salt mine recording studios and of course, robin, tom, rick and daxx from cheap trick and their manager dave and assistant magik. what a good time! you can check out the promo here. well i think that's it for now! stay tuned for my forthcoming single, "orange county" which will be out just in time for summer!

magazine feature and more itunes and other distribution
hey! well a few things going on here in the last month so let's get started! today, itunes dropped 20 of my singles as a compilation dubbed "the singles". they replaced the previous 10 that were up with remastered versions, and added 10 more singles to include the sex pistols cover "bodies", featuring matt "hankk" carlson on bass and vox, and a cover of "queen bitch", the classic 1971 bowie song. click here to go straight to the johnny zapp itunes page. the same compilation is also available thru amazon mp3, spotify, myspace music, media net, emusic, zune, nokia, shockhound, napster, thumbplay, imvu and amazon on demand. damn! how's that for distribution??!! so however you purchase your music downloads, your ipod can and should be packed with these johnny zapp gems! also, you may have noticed the new photo on the home page of the site. that is a shot taken for an upcoming issue of ol' skool rodz and car kulture deluxe magazines . they are doing a feature on yours truly and my 1964 harley davidson panhead chopper. i am not certain when the issue will be out just yet so stay tuned. in the meantime, you can check out a handfull of the shots from that photo shoot here. photos courtesy of alonso parra. thanks alonso for the stellar photography! i am also working on a new track with matt aka: fido. long time no zapp/fido smash!! alright folks. check back next month for more updates regarding the upcoming magazine feature and whatever else i have up my sleeve!

radio, itunes and misc update
howdy! alright, so dirty good time is now available on itunes. as for radio, as i mentioned a few weeks ago it hits la, orange county, vegas and germany starting this saturday. check out www.jlradio.com for station details. watch out for april as it hits 110 fm rock stations in north america nd europe! details to follow! also, the matt roehr video I starred in last year has won music video of the year for 2010! check it out at www.independentmusicnetwork.com ! it also won single of the year. my single, alone again is also still flirting with their top 30 mainstream charts, currently at #13 this week. lastly, please check out this awesome pop culture website run by a friend of mine. i hit the floor when i saw this and questioned why she had been keeping this from me, my pop culture trivia pal!! check out her site at www.popcultureworldnews.com . that's it for now! back in a few weeks!

dirty good time hits fm rock radio february 26th
greetings! just getting back into the groove of things and getting my mojo back in the studio after the holidays. had a great time at namm this year courtesy of brent and clayton at stage ninja. met some great folks, strummed acoustics in the gibson lounge w/ john stamos, saw keith urban, visited w/ old friends, enjoyed fantastic dinner dates with my lady and ended it all w/ a couple of beach cruisers and a sunday afternoon downtown huntington beach...good times. time to get back to business :) yesterday, I received notice that dirty good time will hit fm rock radio in los angeles, phoenix, las vegas and germany...yes, germany on february 26th. dig it. in the meantime, i am hunkered down in the studio with a bevy of les pauls, pen and paper and fresh brewed french roast coffee. new single coming soon!!

dirty good time
holy cow!!! a new single from johnny zapp???!!! I know, i know. it's only been a year, right? so many projects, so little time. so it may have been since last december since I dropped a new single (she's the one), but rest assured. it was worth the wait. dirty good time is the new single written to pay homage to the new york dolls and the rock and roll debauchery of new york city in the early 70's. this track features an all-star line up including chad macdonald (hookers n' blow/gene loves jezebel/jani lane/bullet boys) on bass, roger cardillo (barry sparks band and drummer for rising country artist cindy standage) on drums, and yours truly on guitars and all vocals with guitar solo and mix/master courtesy of matt aka: fido. this track rocks and will have you driving fast and shakin' your ass! click on the title in this post to hear it on music connections website or click here to listen to it on myspace. send me an email and let me know what you think of the track!! thanks to roger, chad and fido for your contributions! plenty more new music in 2011, i promise!

hello there! it is with great pleasure that i tell you that yours truly was just enlisted to produce and play drums on a new single from musician/singer/songwriter jeordie. jeordie is the daughter of 60's musical artist melanie (woodstock alum, #1 billboard single "brand new key", "lay down" and beautiful people"). jeordie is quite the musician and has a very janis joplin swagger about her writing and performances. the single is called "sh*t out of luck with me" and features johnny zapp on drums, chad macdonald on bass and jeordie handling guitars and vocals. check back soon for the finished product! in the meantime, please check out jeordie here.

the video for matt roehr's new single, "fuel into the fire", starring yours truly as peter fonda (aka: captain america) was released this week. this video is a tribute to the 1969 cult classic easy rider. you can check out the video here. this is a great video and working with matt, jayme, scott, collette, paula and all the cast and crew was really a great time!!! tons of photos from the matt roehr video shoot
well folks, as promised...tons of pictures from the matt roehr "fuel into the fire" video shoot are now posted here. gotta love the temporary "hollywood" paint job of the american flag the art department did on my bike huh!! i'd like to thank all the cast, crew and interns for sending all these pictures to me, very cool of you. in a previous update, i had said that matt's single would drop in october...my mistake, it won't actually be until january of 2010. but in the meantime, matt was cool enough to actually document the entire shoot on his home video camera and he just put together and posted a 5 minute documentary of the project. you can check this out here. also, stay tuned for a new zapp/fido single very soon!!

matt roehr video shoot update
just getting home from a successful and packed 3 day shoot for the matt roehr video "fuel into the fire". what a great time and a great cast and crew!! i will have tons of pictures from our 3 day trek posted soon. i am gathering them all as we speak. until then, here is a sneak peak snap shot with my co-star scott himelhoch as dennis hopper, and myself as peter fonda along side the girls responsible for making it happen, wardrobe and costume designer paula rogers and hair/make-up stylist collette tolen. thanks so much ladies!! you guys did an amazing job and it was truly a pleasure working with the both of you!! this shot is from the final night and location where we filmed the campfire scene in rio verde. stay tuned for more!!!

matt roehr music video
greetings!!! so in this months news, i was just cast in a music video for popular german rock artist matt roehr. the video is for his new single due this october called "fuel into the fire", and the premise is in honor of the 40th anniversary of the classic, and personal favorite film of mine, 1969's easy rider. it will be filmed in various locations in which the characters of easy rider traveled from los angeles to mardi gras on their harley panheads, including many sections of historical route 66. yours truly will be portraying the peter fonda character known as "captain america" and will be appearing with my own 1964 harley panhead chopper. i am very excited to be part of this project for matt's new record in which he hopes to, and i am certain will, achieve a solid status for him here in the states. filming for this video starts on october 3rd and the single/video drops later the same month. check back in october for a link to the video. you can also check out more on matt at www.gonzomusic.com .

check out the brand new single poor pitiful you . This one was written about people that always play the victim and never stop to think that all the bad things that happen to them, are all consequences of their own actions. this track features a couple guest stars this time out... we have bayonne, new jersey's roger cardillo of the barry sparks band on drums, hankk of black coffee murder music on bass, and myself on all vocals, acoustic and electric lead and rhythm guitars. thanks a million roger and hankk!! good times!!

something new, something old, something borrowed, something blue

just posted another original single, best days on myspace. the single features me on lead vox, guitars, bass, and drums...matt (aka: fido) on lead guitar, and rex van dine on background vocals. i wrote this song as a tribute to growing up in huntington beach at a time when all that mattered were good friends, cool places, and making memories. thanks huntington and cheers!

well, well, well..this year is proving to be thee year! lots of stuff on the agenda. as of late last year, my partner in crime and frontman of generation 7 and i have been collaborating on a bunch of new material. i have been writing and recording all the music, with me on drums, guitars, and bass, then handing it over to matt w/ a sheet of paper with a few words (or sometimes too many haha!). matt then takes it, wraps his head around the idea or theme, writes the lyrics, cuts the vocals and makes it happen!! that being said, i finally have conformed to myspace. you can check out the stuff matt and i have done along with other tunes at www.myspace.com/johnnyzapp . i am still working on the myspace page and more original tunes will be posted soon so check back frequently.
other big news is that i was picked up last month by indigi music/mmmg out of new jersey/nyc to join their roster writing songs for film and television. this is a great opportunity and i look forward to working with them. thanks to nicole sanzio, president and ceo of indigi music for the opportunity. cheers!!
next up-i recently produced and performed on a new single for rex van dine called "let me". you all know rex from the furnace, sheer, heart attack and mr. furley. i played acoustic guitars and bass on the track and the drums were done by mutual friend/drummer larry corbett.

c.c. deville party
sheer heart attack is headlining a poison after show party at club red hosted by none other than poison's own c.c. deville on wednesday, august 15. this is sure to be a blast! come hang out and see a smokin' set of high energy rock! as far as i know, there is not a cover charge. i will post any further details as they are available.

i will be helping some friends out filling in on bass with a great local cover band called zimis on saturday june 16th. check the shows link for details and come have a bite to eat, a cocktail, a dance and say hello.
Well as of late may, as you can see, the site has finally been revamped. lots of new pictures and an overall new look. I hope you like it! these past 6 months have been a blast! A lot of work but a lot of fun. playing and gigging with 3 bands-generati0n 7 (All original music) the tattooed love boys (playing bass in this pretenders tribute) and sheer heart attack, the kick ass 70's glam/punk/straight up rock party band w/ myself, rex van dine of the furnace/mr. furley, matt lubben of generation 7/dead city love, larry corbett of stream and michelle sandler. sheer heart attack was very well received and will be playing out and about in az every 12 weeks or so with the occasional gig in vegas and ca.
i have also started working with young rock bands. i am teaching them how to play well together and craft good songs as well as going over their instruments with them. i am also producing them and will starting booking them when they are ready to hit the stage. this is a great experience and we are doing it all at zapp city.
i am currently accepting new clients interested in some guidance in these areas and also taking on new bands to record and produce. email me thru the contact page and we can schedule an interview.
